根據德國作家 Rolf Hochhuth 舞台劇《The Deputy》改編，黨衞軍上尉 Kurt Gerstein 發現自己為淨化水源而合成的化學藥劑成為殺人毒氣時深感震驚，想要把這種罪行告上中立國或教廷。天主教神父 Riccardo 是惟一願意幫助他的人。然而兩人的力量不但未能阻止悲劇的發生，還成為了歷史車輪下的犧牲品。
